Designing a Workplace Creche at Noida International Airport: How Decoratr Built a Human-Centric Interior for India’s Most Ambitious Infrastructure Project
When most people think about commercial interior design, they picture sleek conference rooms, glass-partitioned offices, or polished corporate lobbies. But at Decoratr (Axion Construction & Interior Services LLP), we believe the most powerful interiors are the ones that genuinely serve the people who use them every day. Our recent project at Noida International Airport — designing a world-class workplace crèche facility for the airport’s workforce — is a testament to that belief.
This project was not just another commercial fit-out. It was an opportunity to design a space that holds real emotional weight: a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where the children of working parents could spend their day while their parents focused on building one of India’s most ambitious infrastructure projects.
The Vision Behind the Project
Noida International Airport, also known as Jewar Airport, is one of the most significant infrastructure undertakings in India’s recent history. With thousands of employees working across construction, logistics, administration, and operations, the airport’s growing workforce comes with a very human need — childcare.
Little Millennium Education Pvt Ltd, one of India’s leading early childhood education brands, identified this need early. Their vision was clear: to establish a world-class crèche facility inside the airport development zone so that working parents — especially mothers — could remain focused, productive, and stress-free, knowing their children were in safe, professional hands.
They trusted Decoratr to bring this vision to life. And that trust meant everything to our team.
The Design Challenge: Beyond Aesthetics
Designing a crèche inside a large-scale infrastructure and commercial environment comes with a unique set of challenges that go far beyond standard interior design considerations.
Safety First, Always
In a workspace populated by construction and airport operations, child safety compliance becomes non-negotiable. Every material, every corner, every fixture had to be evaluated not just for aesthetics but for child-safe standards. We chose rounded-edge furniture, anti-slip flooring, soft-impact wall panels, and child-appropriate height layouts throughout the facility.
Balancing Playfulness with Professionalism
This crèche needed to feel warm, playful, and stimulating for young children — while also fitting harmoniously within the broader architectural language of a world-class airport development. The design had to speak to two audiences simultaneously: the children who would learn and play there, and the professional stakeholders who would evaluate and fund it.
We achieved this balance through the use of vibrant but tasteful colour zoning, natural light maximisation, activity-based spatial planning, and soft furnishing choices that maintained a high quality of finish without sacrificing the joy and energy that young spaces need.
Creating Learning-Centered Zones
Aligned with Little Millennium’s early childhood education philosophy, the facility was not just a place to keep children safe — it was designed to actively support learning and development. We created distinct zones within the space: a creative arts corner, a quiet reading nook, an open play area, and a structured learning zone. Each area was thoughtfully separated yet visually connected, giving caregivers clear sightlines across the entire facility.
Execution: Where Design Meets Discipline
A project of this sensitivity required meticulous project management alongside creative excellence. The Decoratr team coordinated closely with the Little Millennium team, the airport project stakeholders, and our trusted network of suppliers and contractors to ensure every element was delivered on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standard.
Working within a large infrastructure development site also presented logistical challenges — material delivery coordination, on-site safety compliance, and working within active construction zones. Our team’s experience in large-format commercial interiors and construction, through Axion Construction & Interior Services LLP, proved invaluable in navigating these complexities without compromising on the design intent.
The result is a facility that genuinely feels like it was designed with care — because it was.
Why Workplace Childcare Design Matters More Than Ever
India’s corporate and infrastructure sectors are growing at a rapid pace. As organisations scale up — particularly in mega-projects like airports, IT parks, and Special Economic Zones (SEZs) — the workforce supporting these projects becomes increasingly diverse. Retaining talented professionals, especially working mothers, requires more than competitive salaries. It requires thoughtful workplace support systems.
A well-designed workplace crèche is one of the most impactful employee welfare investments an organisation can make. Research consistently shows that access to reliable childcare directly improves employee retention, reduces absenteeism, and boosts overall productivity. When companies invest in the wellbeing of their employees’ families, they create a culture of trust and loyalty that no salary increment can easily replicate.
Interior design plays a critical role in making these facilities credible, welcoming, and effective. A poorly designed crèche — even one with the right intentions — can undermine confidence rather than build it. Parents need to walk in and immediately feel reassured. That reassurance comes from design: from clean, bright spaces, visible safety features, organised activity zones, and an overall environment that communicates professionalism and care in equal measure.
What This Project Means to Decoratr
For our team at Decoratr, this project represents the very best of what commercial interior design can be. It reinforced our belief that great design is not about imposing a visual style — it is about deeply understanding the people who will inhabit the space and making choices that genuinely serve their needs.
We are proud to operate in the Delhi NCR region, contributing to the transformation of India’s commercial and infrastructure landscape through design that reflects real human values. From high-end corporate offices and partition systems to specialised facilities like this crèche, our portfolio continues to expand into spaces that matter.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes to Little Millennium Education Pvt Ltd for placing their trust in us for a project so close to the heart, and to the Noida International Airport project for the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to India’s most exciting infrastructure story.
